PALM BEACH KNOWS HOW TO TAKE CARE OF ITS OWN

With New Year’s Eve parties providing gala evenings, security of the best kind was put into place at seven Palm Beach sites, using a dozen volunteer police officers.  The officers were paid out of the $70/per hour funds from the party givers, with any leftover money going to the town .  Officers are paid time and a half to provide special police detailing.  Their 66 hours of security and traffic control brought the town about $4600.

Some private clubs and restaurants were covered.  All policemen were on call in the event of problems.  The Community Relations Coordinator said that the Police Department covered nearly 100 private events and parties in 2014 and had about 250 requests. Barges were on the Intracoastal Waterway to set off fireworks, and the marine unit was available to keep boaters away from the barges.
